On 21 November in Melbourne, Sonder was awarded the Telstra Australian ‘Emerging & Energised’ prize - awarded to businesses that have made a resounding impact within three years of launch.
Now in its 27th year, the Telstra Australian Business Awards is one of the nation’s most highly-respected awards programs. This year’s record 21,000 nominations shone a light on the country’s most promising SMBs, from start-ups to recognised industry players.
The awards are also a celebration of Australia’s enterprising spirit and the ingenuity, tenacity and resourcefulness of those shaping the country’s economic future.
They put businesses to the test like no other cross-industry award - finalists are put through a rigorous judging process across a range of criteria: from strategy and vision, customers and marketing, operations, people and culture, innovation and technology, social responsibility and financial acumen.
At the national awards in Melbourne, Sonder was awarded the Telstra Australian ‘Emerging & Energised’ prize - awarded to businesses that have made a resounding impact within three years of operation. It is an incredible honour to be recognised as one of the most exciting Australian businesses of 2019, having accepted the NSW ‘Emerging & Energised’ and NSW Business of the Year awards in October.
The Telstra award adds to Sonder’s recent public acknowledgements including #6 2019 AFR Most Innovative Companies List, #10 LinkedIn Top Start-ups 2019 and Winner of the IEAA Excellence Award for Innovation.
“We’re delighted to receive this honour from Telstra, as we continue our journey to make the world safer and more meaningfully connected,” said CEO and Co-Founder Craig Cowdrey.
We were humbled to be nominated alongside so many inspirational winners and finalists, and would like to congratulate:
- Dignity - the 2019 Telstra Australian Business of the Year, a not-for-profit organisation which supports people at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness by providing shelter, food, clothing, advocacy and education, to empower people to regain control of their lives. It is the first time that the winner of Telstra’s Social Change Maker category has also been named Business of the Year.
- Modibodi - the recipient of both the Medium & Making Waves Award and People’s Choice Award for their work eliminating the need for costly and uncomfortable single-use hygiene products
- Water Tight Canberra - the Small & Succeeding Award winner, due to their ongoing commitment to social and environmentally conscious practices re-engineering the plumbing industry.
